I had a 1.4X on my EF 100-400mm and was 100% completely satisfied with the image quality, I never took the extender off that lens. Another bonus buying the 400mm f/2.8 over the 600mm f/4 would also be carrying around a smaller and lighter lens.

That Kenko 1.4x works well with my 7D II and 100-400 II. Since Dave says it works, you'll be fine. The IQ of the Kenko converter is good, the Canon may be a tick better but that's splitting hairs. One advantage should be the additional focus points.

I wouldn't do it. It's already a slow lens and the tele-con will only make it slower f9 to f14 in the case of the 2x. Very slow starting apertures! Since I wouldn't do it, I don't know if they work or not personally. Canon tel-cons do not work on all Canon lenses. Make sure the Rf 100-500 is listed

As mentioned, the extender won't physically fit the EF 70-300mm L f/4-5.6 IS USM II, so IMO if you are going to spring for the EF 100-400mm L f/4.5-5.6 IS USM II, I would go for the RF 100-500mm L f/4.5-7.1 IS USM. I agree with Trevor that the EF 70-300L II is a great lens. The lens and extender combo can always be used in manual focus mode. Meanwhile with the Canon Extender EF 1.4x II you can easly extend the focal length of compatible Canon L Series with very little degradation in the final digital picture. My advise is to go for the 1.4 extender.

The 100-500L works amazingly well with the RF 1.4x converter. I was never a huge fan of the EF converters, and I preferred not to use them unless it was necessary. However, the RF converters have completely reversed my previous thoughts. When I'm out shooting wildlife I'll have the 1.4x on more often then not.

Bottom line and why I would prefer one of the 150-600mm super zooms , there is no substitute for having a lens with the actual focal length vs a tel-con. If you think of it this way, 50mm is one power. So, your 200mm lens is equivalent to a 4x power binocular. Adding the 1.4x tel-con and you now have abut a 5x binocular.
