1999 is good in a lot of things (I do think 2011 is more accurate to the manga and I do prefer it, but I won't say 1999 is bad because I think it is elss accurate and just because I prefer it less. 1999 had some good things, and I do still love it.I just like 2011 and the manga more), but imo they did not understand Killua's character or his 6 Yu Yu Hakusho. Anyone who loves Hunter x Hunter should watch Yu Yu Hakusho, particularly because these two mangas have the same creator. Yoshihiro Togashi's Yu Yu Hakusho ended long before Hunter x Hunter 's first chapter, but both narratives have a similar feel in terms of character development and power-scaling. The 2011 version is a good way to introduce someone to the series but the 1999 one is a great way for people who are already fans to enjoy it again. Also the first episode doesnt skip the kite introduction and they keep the sushi making part of the exam unlike the 2011 version. In all, i highly recommend it. The old TV series stopped when it reached the manga, later were released 3 OVA sequels as new Arcs got published in the manga. The 2011 version was a remake that followed the same story as those ones, but now it's in an Arc that wasn't animated (and will possibly cover another short Arc after that). Other good points is the newer animation and Both versions adapt the same source material but have different animation styles and pacing. Hunter x Hunter 1999 has a darker tone and slower pacing, while Hunter x Hunter 2011 has a more vibrant animation style and faster pacing. It is recommended to watch both and decide which version resonates more with your preferences. Yes! In my opinion, the 1999 version is superior. It has a different atmosphere: the animation is less childish and much "darker" than the one from 2011. It's a lot of fun to watch the battles, especially the ones in the Phantom Troupe arc. HXH 1999!! wow Thx!!! These sound like cicadas. One thing I love about the 99 version more than 2011 is definitely the lighting and backgrounds. Just so much more realistic and beautiful. 2011 is clearer but also more cartoony and often too bright but it also works well in its own way I guess.
